Mechanisms driving shape distortion in two-dimensional flow

چکیده
In order to elucidate the physical processes governing the evolution of material areas in complex flow, we study the shape dynamics of three-point Lagrangian clusters in an experimental quasi–two-dimensional flow. By comparing our measurements with simulations of triangles evolving purely diffusively, we show that the path taken by the mean triangle shape through a suitably defined phase space is indicative of the underlying flow dynamics. We demonstrate the existence of organizing curves in shape space for the evolution of triangles with different initial shapes. Our results suggest a detailed, multi-step process governing the shape dynamics of clusters in complex flow. Copyright c © EPLA, 201

Three-dimensional characteristic approach for incompressible thermo-flows and influence of artificial compressibility parameter
In this paper the characteristics of unsteady three-dimensional incompressible flows with heat transfer are obtained along with artificial compressibility of Chorin. At first, compatibility equations and pseudo characteristics for three-dimensional flows are derived from five governing equations (continuity equation, Momentum equations in three directions, and energy equation) and then results ...
متن کاملPerformance Improvement of PEM Fuel Cells Using Air Channel Indentation; Part I: Mechanisms to Enrich Oxygen Concentration in Catalyst Layer
A three dimensional, compressible, steady, one phase flow of reactant-product mixture in the air side electrode of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is numerically studied in this paper. The mixture is composed of three species: oxygen, nitrogen and water vapor. The performance of the cell is enhanced by partial blockage of the flow field channels. Various types of these blocks also ca...
متن کاملNumerical Study of Bubble Separation and Motion Using Lattice Boltzmann Method
In present paper acombination of three-dimensional isothermal and two-dimensional non-isothermal Lattice Boltzmann Method have been used to simulate the motion of bubble and effect of wetting properties of the surface on bubble separation. By combining these models, three-dimensional model has been used in two-dimension for decreasing the computational cost. Firstly, it has been ensured that th...
متن کاملNumerical study of flow and heat transfer characteristics of CuO/H2O nanofluid within a mini tube
Nanofluids are new heat transfer fluids, which improve thermal performance while reducing the size of systems. In this study, the numerical domain as a three-dimensional copper mini tube was simulated to study the characteristics of flow and heat transfer of CuO/H2O nanofluid, flowed horizontally within it. The selected model for this study was a two-phase mixture model. The results ...

The airflow in the modeled glottal constriction was simulated by the solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow, and the corresponding Reynolds equations for turbulent flow in generalized, nonorthogonal coordinates using a numerical method. A two-dimensional model of laryngeal flow is considered and aerodynamic properties are calculated for both laminar and turbulent steady flows...
